"Greg & Calvin in the Eastern Sierra" photographed by Bobby Black

For nearly 15 years, Gregory Hunter has explored unmarked roads and back-country trails across the west. He is constantly searching for the perfect image with emphasis on capturing simplistic beauty. Greg conveys peace and balance in his work. When you look at his photographs, Greg allows you to escape from a hectic day and enjoy your own tranquil moment.

The inspiration for Greg's work is Ansel Adams. Growing up in the western United States, he has since refined a personalized quality extracted from many of the same exotic locations where Ansel has traveled. Though Greg never met Ansel, he has been fortunate to study under and work with several of his assistants. Alan Ross and John Sexton have helped shape Greg's own unique vision and sense of creativity. Renowned photographer Bob Kolbrener has also been influential in Greg's presentation style.

The large format 4x5 field camera that Greg photographs with is completely manual. In our automatic high-tech world, Greg takes pride in methodically setting up every photographic dimension imaginable. His painstaking attention to detail finds him spending countless hours in the darkroom. He explores and develops every nuance of each photo negative and then creates the perfect mood for that print.

Greg shares the knowledge of his art as a teaching assistant through the Ansel Adams Gallery workshop program in Yosemite and Death Valley California. Greg has exhibited his work in several galleries in both the Denver and Los Angeles area. He is also currently displayed in many private collections.

Before pursuing his passion for outdoor, still-life photography on a full time basis, Greg spent 20 years as an award winning television photojournalist. Being in the fast pace world of TV news is what motivated Greg to step back, capture and pass-on his very special brand of the "tranquil escape". Greg hopes that you may find your own personal retreat in any number of his signature pieces.
